What We’ve Learned: Week 1
One week ago, Kristen pushed and pushed and pushed, and Henry came into this world crying. Of course, I was crying a bit, too. (Kristen was too tired to cry right then and there, but she shed a few happy tears later that day.)
It has been a wonderful, amazing, completely fulfilling week. Even with not nearly enough sleep, a constant worry that would probably crush a lesser (or more sane) man, and being constantly on the go, I don’t think I would change a single moment.
So, in these seven days, what have we learned about our young Master Henry?
Well, we’ve learned that his poops come in two waves, and it’s always best to wait the extra 3 minutes for the next one to follow.
We’ve learned that he shows his excitement by pumping his little frog legs up and down and up and down.
We’ve learned that the day goes really, really fast, epecially when you’re the “on demand” member of the team (and you ladies know what I’m talking about).
We’ve learned that you can get a smile from him by kissing his amazingly adorable cheeks (which are getting chubbier by the day).
We’ve learned that car rides will put him to sleep within 30 seconds and that a walk in the stroller is nearly as effective.
We’ve learned that of the three feedings during the night, there’s always one “super feed” that lasts much too long (but usually puts him out for 3 consecutive hours).
We’ve learned that having him fall asleep in your arms is one of the most amazing feelings ever.
We’ve learned that he’s more likely to be able to take off his left glove but his right sock.
We’ve learned that our friends and family are really wonderful people who are always more than willing to help.
And most of all, we’ve learned that Henry is the best thing that either of us could ever have asked for.
