High-Class Cuisine

Chicago is well-known for its fine dining. Don’t believe me? Well, Charlie Trotter’s is often on lists for the best restaurants in the world, and Alinea has taken eating out to the next level. We’re also known for some of the best steakhouses in the country, and, as I’ve mentioned before, the variety and quality of our Mexican restaurants are second to none.

Why am I writing about this now, you ask? Well, on Saturday, Henry ate out for the first time in his young life. Up until now, we’ve been limited to how long we could leave the house without him falling to pieces — a short walk here or there, a quick jaunt to the grocery store, a drive to the doctor’s. But yesterday, after shopping at Target for nearly an hour, we thought that he might be able to handle it. Our restaurant of choice was just a few blocks away, and our growling stomaches really couldn’t stand the drive home on empty.

So, off we went. No, not to Charlie Trotter’s. To Wolfy’s, a pretty good hot dog joint that also happens to sport one of the best signs in all of the midwest.

Henry was great. He sat there (slept, actually) quietly as Kristen and I devoured our lunch, and it wasn’t until we were a few blocks from home did he start to complain. That he did it loudly wasn’t very nice, but it was okay.

I’m not sure when we’re going to be eating out again in anything much fancier than Wolfy’s for a while, but at least we know we can do it.

Today, is a mini-milestone. It’s not every day — in fact, it’s really only one day — that a person can say that their first-born child turns one month old. But for us, today is that day.

I’m not the kind of person to say that I’m blessed (so I won’t say it), but I will say that Kristen and I couldn’t be happier that every day we get to see and kiss and play with and experience Henry.

Kristen makes that face (the first photo)! It’s usually accompanied by a sad whimper. Did Henry learn it in utero?

He has a great chin…. little chubby chin!
