All That Meat and No Potatoes
For the past few weeks, whenever Kristen or I have eaten anything in front of Henry, he’s begun to fixate on everything about it. The food. The chewing. The putting things in your mouth. To me, it was obvious that he was ready to try solid foods. (Kristen, on the other hand, wanted to wait until he was 6 months old — fearing him eating solids too early would begin his downhill slide into obesity.) But she acquiesced, and last week I went out and bought a box of rice cereal.
So Saturday morning, we mixed a few tablespoons up, put Henry in his high chair (a gift from Kristen’s cousin Ashley), and went to town. Of course, it was all caught on video.
The following is a compilation of Saturday and Sunday, where Kristen fed Henry first and then I fed him the next day. (I decided to put music over the video instead of you having to hear my hacking. I’m still coughing, still sick. Terrible.)
It’s a long video, so if you want, I can point out a few good spots that you may want to fast foward to:
0:15 — Check out that face. I don’t know if he’s unhappy that he has some strangely textured substance in his mouth or it tastes as bad as we all suspect. I’m going with the latter.
0:44 — “Now what? Do I chew? Do I swallow? Do I spit it out? Decisions, decisions.”
2:14 — “You’d think I’d get used to the taste by now, but you’d be wrong.”
2:27 — We switch here to Sunday. A few things to point out: first, my incredibly hairy arms; second, I’m not nearly as good at this as Kristen (notice the food all over Henry’s face?); third, I pick the food up off his pajamas and feed it to him. That’s got to be unsanitary.
3:12 — “Daddy, you are the worst! Just give me that thing and let me feed myself!”
3:50 — “JUST GIVE IT TO ME!”
Next weekend… carrots!

Super cute! Yeah for Henry!
Note: Be prepared for carrot poop. It is the nastiest poop you have ever seen.
Also, you might want to grab some children’s benedryl to have on hand just in case he has an allergic reaction to anything. We had to get some after peas gave him hives.

Hilarious! I laughed out loud- I can’t wait to feed Talia. We’re going to MI this weekend, but may give it a go when we return. Hopefully our high chair will be in by then (back order at BRU).
Henry did a great job- his expressions are so fun. I’m sure Talia will make some similar faces…

The ‘let me just think about this’ face is the best.

yay for henry! you know what may be nastier than carrot poop though? a green bean blowout. I had to deal with one of those last week and it went almost up to the child’s shoulders. Just a green mess. We don’t feed that child green beans anymore.
