Achoo!

There are upwards of five hundred thousand reasons why I love Henry. Really. Between his wonderful round head  (reason number 112,328) and his wiggle when he sees one of us walk in the room (112,330) is that when he’s got a cold, as he developed this weekend, he is as happy as when he’s healthy as a horse.

A couple of days before we went to Florida, Henry woke up with a cough. It wasn’t bad and there was no associated sniffles, and we hoped that it would just go away. While it didn’t get worse, it also didn’t go away, until late Saturday when, darn it all, it did get worse.

Oh, the mucus. It was everywhere. On Sunday, we spent our day with a tissue at the ready. And when the tissue wasn’t good enough, we resorted to the Japanese suction I wrote about earlier, which is something that Henry does not like one bit. (I tell you, when Henry finally learns how to blow his nose, everything will be so much better.)

The first day of sickness is always the worst with Henry, mostly because he refuses to nap. When he’s lying down, it’s difficult for him to breathe, so those snoozes that usually last 1 or 2 hours sometime are barely 30 minutes, which means he’s a bit grumpy. (It got so bad that on Sunday afternoon, after trying for nearly an hour to get him to fall asleep, I resorted to loading him in the car and driving around for an hour. He did sleep — I could hear him snoring.

But here’s the thing: mucus running down his face, grumpiness, sleepiness, trouble breathing, all of it which would make a mere mortal baby the most unhappiest in 100 miles, means nothing to our son. He still smiled — non stop — still played, still wiggled, still splashed in the tub.

On Monday, he was a little better, and today better still. He’s been sleeping really well at night (in nice, long 7 hour stretches), and I’m sure that by tomorrow, he’ll be all better again.

What a baby!

Poor Henry. A cold is no fun at all. I hope he recovers very soon.

Ick. Poor baby, poor parent who has to suck mucus out of his nose.
