When Food Attacks!
Sometimes we tend to overestimate Henry, mostly because he’s progressing so well and growing so fast. His dexterity is terrific; he’s moving around as much as possible without actually crawling (although he’s so close); and his personality is only getting better. Henry’s also been eating a lot of new and exciting things (peaches, pears, plums, many other things that start with “p”). And he’s pooping only once every two days or so, a wonderful, diaper-saving event.
From this we assumed that like his motor skills, his stomach has developed and matured. I mean, all the signs pointed to a constitution of steel. Or so we thought.
On Friday night, Kristen had a craving for Indian food. The last time we got Indian takeout led to a night of Henry tossing and turning and groaning. But that was October, a long time ago, when Henry was only 2 months old. He’s a mature 8 1/2 months now, a young man practically.
So we snacked on the samosas, devoured the daal, swallowed the saag, and munched on the murg makhani.
Kristen and I loved it. Our place is just down the street from where the majority of the city’s Indians and Pakistanis live, so the food at any of dozens of restaurants is terrific.
But while we had one of the best meals we’ve had in months, Henry was not so happy. He just wasn’t ready for more Indian food. Those groans we had heard in October were back with a vengeance, and much of Saturday included him making strange faces and pooping.
So we’ll wait a few more months until trying Indian again. And hopefully by then the moans and groans from Henry will merely be whimpers and sighs.

With you guys living so close to Devon, I’d say that Henry is just going to have to get used to the Indian food and it might as well be sooner rather than later.
It was great seeing you guys on Sunday! Henry is even cuter in person than he is on the Interwebs.

I’m assuming Henry’s reaction was to the Indian food that made its way into K’s breast milk, yes? I knew Indian spices were potent, but I never realized just how much so!

I had no idea that could cause distress! I had better get my fill of Indian food while this kid is still contained!!
