Ladies Man: Part 3

Henry is not yet old enough to feel any peer pressure. (Being just nine months old can be limiting, you know.) But it doesn’t mean that he, unwittingly, can’t be part of it.

What does this have to do with Henry’s third (and final) girlfriend? Let me explain.

zoe-and-henryI met Zoe’s mother a few years ago when she and I worked for the same company, and I met Zoe about 2 1/2 years ago (about 1 day after she was born). A very cute and lovable child, Zoe has fallen for our Henry quite hard. When she plays with her toy telephone, she will call Henry. When she got a baby doll, it was named Henry. So enamored is she with our son, that her mother will, when disciplining Zoe, say things such as, “Would Henry do that? I think Henry would not throw forks at the wall” or “Henry loves to take naps” or “Henry never eats ice cream for dinner.”

Our son is unwittingly a pawn in a peer pressure parenting scheme!

We went over to Zoe’s last week, and she smothered Henry in kisses and hugs. She’s also quite fond of telling him (and anyone else, really) what to do.

Zoe: Here is a toy. You must play it like this.

Henry: Goo.

(The toy goes in his mouth.)

Zoe: No, like this!

Henry: Guh.

(Zoe shakes her head in disbelief.)

Possibly the best thing about Zoe (and there are many good things) is that she has a really great accent. Her grandmother is from Russia (as is Zoe’s mother, although she came to the states when she was relatively young and has lost her accent), so there are some strange intonations about. Think of the worst Russian accent you’ve ever heard in your life (John Malkovich in “Rounders,” perhaps [some bad language in the link]), throw it in the body of a toddler, and you’ve got our girl.

We still don’t know who he’s going to his prom with. Decisions, decisions.

I’m pretty sure there is a rule about no prom dates being older than 20 or something like that (so I’ve heard), so he’s stuck (if you can call it that) with Talia and not one of his sugar mamas…
