Barfday Continues/What We’ve Learned: Week 47
So, Raphe caught whatever tummy bug Henry had and spent most of last night curled up in a ball. And when he wasn’t lying in the fetal position moaning about the noises his stomach was making, he was wretching. It was awful.
Raphe throws up louder and with more gusto than anyone I’ve ever heard. It’s like, BLEEEEEAH-AH-AH, BLEAH, BLEAH, BLEEEEEEAAAAH with some animalistic vocalizations thrown in. I’d say it’s almost comical, or something out of a movie, but I think any director who heard him would probably step in and say, “You know, you’re OVERACTING here, Cheli. It doesn’t even sound REAL.” Except in this case, it IS real.
Now that you have the image of Raphe hunched over the toilet while making crazy vomit noises burned in your mind, let’s reflect on what we learned this week.
We learned that Henry is a lot more interested in reading books lately. It used to be difficult to get him to sit still through an entire book (and we’re talking about stories that are in some cases 12 pages long). Now, not only will he sit still, he’ll examine the pictures and point at things in the pictures. He’ll turn the pages at the appropriate time instead of just turning them to watch them flip by. He loves (LOVES) Pat the Bunny and will interact with it in all the appropriate ways – petting the fluffy bunny, feeling Daddy’s scratchy face, sticking his finger in Mummy’s ring. I think his favorite part is playing peek-a-boo with Paul. That cracks him up every time.
We learned that Henry is becoming a great mimic. Repeat a word a few times for him and he’ll try it out himself. Granted, “duck” comes out as “uck”, and he has no idea what a duck is anyway, but it’s still amusing.
We learned that while Henry may appear to be enjoying munching away on a hunk of crusty bread, he is not actually eating it. We assumed that because Henry wasn’t choking and because none of the bread was coming back out the way it went in that he was in fact eating it. Not so. Twenty minutes after the assumed consumption I turned him upside down while playing with him and happened to notice the bread was all packed into his soft palate. Gross. I had to turn him back rightside up and stick my finger in there to get it out.
We also learned that the best way to end one of these “What We’ve Learned” posts when you have nothing left to natter on about is to add a bunch of baby photos. Here’s Henry trying to figure out how to get a gigantic salad-server into his mouth:

Sorry to hear that Raphe is now suffering through what Henry had…
But the pictures were fun!
