You’re Where Now?
I’m currently sitting in a hotel room in Kennebunkport, Maine. There is one small table lamp on so Henry can sleep, and I’m on the computer and Kristen’s reading a magazine.
What’s that? You didn’t know we were going to Maine? Well, keep up, people!
One of Kristen’s oldest and dearest friends is getting married this Saturday (Kristen is in the wedding party, while I will be baby wrangling) in Boston, and we decided that we’d come in a few days early for a much-needed and -deserved vacation.
Kristen decided on Maine not for its beautiful coastline or its mild summer weather. No, she wanted to eat lobster.
We flew into Boston this morning, met Jodi (the marrying friend) for lunch and a stroll around Brookline, Massachusetts, and then headed up north. The trip up was not the best due to a not particularly effective set of directions from Google and an 11-month-old who was quite good and sick of sitting on planes or in car seats all day, thank you very much.
We didn’t end up getting to the hotel until after 7 (oh, what a long, long day), but it was made all better when, as Kristen nursed Henry to sleep, I headed out to The Clam Shack to pick up some fried clams, clam chowder, and a very tasty lobster roll. We ate in silence but it wasn’t because we were afraid to wake up Henry quietly sleeping 5 feet away. No, we were quiet because we were shoving the tastiness into our mouths too fast that speaking was out of the question.
Tomorrow will be a full day of beach, saltwater taffy, and more lobster, and I promise to have some pictures.
Until then, for those of you who are jealous of the mounds of yummy crustaceons that we’ll be devouring the next few days, nya-nya.

Uh – you forgot to mention that Henry is interested in purchasing the second-most popular car in the United States?! It was great to see you guys yesterday… sorry your trip was so long, but you got clams!!

Well, if you want lobster “cheap,” you could come up the coast to Rockland this weekend. If you can stand crowds….the Maine Lobster Festival is being held right now. No, I don’t work for them. In fact, it’s time for us locals to get “the _ _ _ _ outta Dodge!”

Crustaceans ain’t my thing — the beach is what has me envious. You lucky kids. Enjoy!

Me jealous too – I read on CNN that lobster is cheaper per pound than hot dogs in some places on the east coast. Of course, now I have a taste for it, but it is not exactly trickling down to the Midwest…
