Hunker Down

Today Henry turns 14 months. I’ll have a “What We’ve Learned” post tomorrow to celebrate this very exciting month, but to give you a taste of what’s to come in the next 24 hours, I want to talk about the most exciting thing that Henry has started to do these past four weeks.

Is it that he’s walking? Nope (although that’s amazing).

Is it that his vocabulary grows every day? Nah (although I never knew I’d be so happy to hear anyone say “all done”).

Is it that he’s started giving Kristen and I kisses again? Uh-uh (although those 6 weeks I went smoochless was a lonely time).

It’s that he’s started to do the toddler squat.

I love the toddler squat. Henry will now walk over to something (he’s gotten really good at walking so now his arms, which were either straight up or straight out before, are now down by his side), squat, pick up or poke or push something on the ground, and then stand up again and walk away.

I don’t know why this fascinates me so. Maybe because it’s something that is temporary, that once you get to be a certain height, a certain weight, a certain age, squatting becomes a near impossible thing (other than catchers in baseball, and they all wear these knee saver devices). Or maybe because it’s just darn adorable.

It’s just another thing that I’ll have to savor, I guess. That and the kisses, because pretty soon he’ll be shoving me away and wanting to play his Xbox instead of giving (sniff) his old man (sniff) the love that I need (bawl).

Kids.
