No Snooze Button on the Baby
There are very few things that I don’t absolutely adore about Henry. One of those is that he just doesn’t want to sleep in later than 6 in the morning.
Each day, without fail, he starts to yammer away at around 5:50 and by 6:05 he’s standing up at the edge of the crib announcing that it’s time to start the day.
Monday through Friday, this isn’t a bad thing. Our alarm goes off at 6, so Henry getting up then isn’t so terrible. The problem is on the weekend, when sleeping in would be ideal. Henry just doesn’t get that. Weekends mean nothing to a person whose every day involves at least two naps and constant fun.
So instead of both of us getting up at the crack-o-dawn, we take turns getting up with Henry. On Saturday, I’ll sleep in as Kristen feeds and plays with Henry. On Sunday, vice versa.
The crazy thing is this: by 8:00, he’s back in bed for his first nap of the day, snoozing until 10:00 or 10:30. Why, Henry, can you not just sleep another two hours, eschewing that first nap and instead allow your family more time to sleep in the morning? Why?
We’ve tried to keep him up later, but he gets quite cranky if he’s not in bed by 7, and in those instances where he has stayed up later, he still gets up at 6…
I guess it’s just something that he’ll have to grow out of (or into). Because getting up that early on the weekend is for the birds.

Let me say this about that… I have an alarm clock in my room that I never set… yet I’m awake at 6am (give or take 5 minutes) every morning. I couldn’t sleep in if I tried… would just be too restless in bed. The other thing is, it doesn’t matter if I go to bed at 10pm or 1am my internal alarm clock wakes me up. I don’t know if Kristen’s got it, but I suspect that Jay does. You may want him to adapt to your schedule, but I suspect you’ll keep on adapting to his until he’s off to college

Give Henry a hug from me!
