Henry’s First Christmas Tree
We were too harried last year to even attempt a Christmas tree, so this year is Henry’s first Christmas with an actual tree. This also marks the first Christmas the cats are experiencing a Christmas tree, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about that. I’ve had nightmares about Cecil knocking the tree over for weeks.
We got the tree on Saturday morning at Gethsemane, a froofy garden center in Andersonville. Raphe was just starting to show signs of falling ill (i.e., intense crabbiness) and Henry was in a similarly good mood thanks to the 8 gazillion teeth that are currently cutting through his gums. Also it was freezing out. However, thanks in no small part to the unflagging high spirits of your correspondent, a stupendous tree was acquired. It’s currently in our living room in a 35-lb cast iron tree stand we borrowed from Lillian. Take that, Cecil! It’s going to require some serious effort to knock the tree over. I don’t want to underestimate our cat, but I think we’ll be safe.
Henry’s a bit tentative around the tree now that it’s in the house (he clung to my leg when I showed it to him this morning), but I’m confident he’ll come around. It smells glorious. I can’t wait to decorate it.

Yay, Christmas tree! We didn’t decorate the bottom, oh, eighth of the tree so as not to tempt Otis, though he did manage to knock a couple of ornaments off nonetheless. That’s why I only buy plastic or otherwise unbreakable ornaments these days.
P.S. The new blog format doesn’t indicate who the author is of each post. It’s a little confusing! Any way to restore that feature?

We got our tree at Gethsemane too. It was fun shopping there. I think Henry will warm up to it! Excited to see it this week! See you tomorrow!
