About
Do you remember Schoolhouse Rock? It was a short Saturday morning animated program that was stuck between a couple of cartoons on ABC. Each 3-minute episode, mostly created by the very talented Bob Dorough, would talk about something educational, whether it was grammar or history or math or science. Some were and remain classics. “I’m Just a Bill” follows the life of a congressional bill that is turned into a law. “Interplanet Janet” educated all us kids on the (then) nine planets in the solar system.
The songs were really catchy and the animation was pretty decent.
My favorite was one of the math episodes: “Three Is a Magic Number.” By the time I first saw it, I knew my times table by heart, so it wasn’t that it helped me out learning, but there was verse in it that really made me happy. It goes “A man and woman had a little baby/Yes they did/They had three in a family/That’s a magic number”.
Kristen, Henry, and I are a family.
